Solar Credits (STC's) | Feed-in-Tariff

Feed-in-tariff

The Feed-in-tariff scheme works by paying you for any excess / surplus electricity your system sends back into the grid (exported).

The more energy your solar system generates, the more you save.

Installing a larger system becomes more financially advantageous because you sell more energy.

Getting paid: The legislation requires that your energy retailer pays you for your credits after one full year, to allow for peaks and troughs in production and consumption. If, however you are credit every quarter you can telephone your retailer and ask them to pay you. Most will oblige (they are required to) and send you a cheque.

The Feed-in-tariff consists of 2 portions - 16c/kWh paid from the state government (through your retailer), along with a top up from your energy retailer. As of 27th January 2012 all retailers must pay 7.1c/kWh for all energy exported until 30th June 2012. From 1st July 2012 to 30th June 2012 the rate is set at 9.8c/kWh then going to 11.2c/kwh on 1st July 2013.

Example of savings with this scheme:

if your system generated 10 units of energy on average, and during the daytime you used 6, the first 6 units generated provide power to your home (reducing your energy bill). The other 4 units generated are exported to the grid and credited at $0.231/kWh.

6 kWh saved @ 30 cents = $1.80

4 kWh sold @ 25.8 cents = $1.032

Total annual savings      = $1033.70
