FAQ - What are REC's

What are Renewable Energy Certificates (REC's)?

Renewable Energy Certificates (REC's) are an electronic form of currency calculated for the emission offset created by the equipment.

Every solar system (PV and hot water) and wind system attracts REC's. The number of REC's given are based on location and capacity or efficiency, depending on the particular equipment

Each certificate has a tradable dollar value. The value varies according to supply and demand, as well as general market pressures

Solar hot water systems are assessed for individual efficiency and each model is given a number of certificates.

Solar power systems (grid and saps) are based on rated capacity, location and period (1, 5 or 15 year's value).

Eg - A 2.1kW grid-connect system in Adelaide can be calculated as
2.1(capacity) x 1.382(location factor) x 15 (year's value) = 43 Certificates

As market value of certificates varies, let's work on $35 / certificate. 43 REC's x $55 = $1505 off the cost of your system.
